Our Public Meeting, free to all, commences on Friday October 14th at 7:30 pm sharp in the main Hall of Hayling Island Community Centre in West Town. We anticipate a short AGM first - all relevant papers have been distributed to our members so if you are a member and haven't received them, get in touch via this website urgently please! We will then lead into our speaker, Alan Mak MP's, address. Andrew Biltcliffe, Head of Havant Borough Council Planning, has agreed to be present but only to help answer any technical questions relating to the new Housing Plan 2036. We are inviting copies of your questions to be handed in at the entrance so that our roving mic can be handed to those asking q

Timetable: Hayling Ferry

Hayling Ferry has its own informative site where you can easily read the Winter Timetable and, if you donated on the Crowdfunder to help get it going, you can use your vouchers for your trips. Please go to: www.haylingferry.net. The site also helpfully gives a link to the Met Office in case you want to check on the weather forecast for the trip! It also provides a link for us all to support the petition for the resumption of an Eastney Bus - the missing link.

Advance Notice - Freebie!

We've just heard that 'Small Business Saturday' December 3rd will provide 3 hours free parking at Havant Borough Council Town Centre Car Parks.

Elm Grove's Proposed Sheltered Retirement Apartments for Older People : September 28th Closing D

HIRA this week received an invitation to view online and comment on proposals for the above at 108-110 Elm Grove, Hayling PO11 9EN. Please ensure that you visit the online sites and use the email or freepost address provided or telephone number to obtain hard copies to add your opinions to these proposals as given in their letter to us and quoted below. Always remember that the more feedback all of us make, the better our chances of being listened to: "Churchill Retirement Living is proposing to redevelop the land at No 108 to 110 Elm Grove, Hayling Island, which comprises 0.3 hectares of land and is located in a sustainable location to local services and facilities. Specifically the propo

Havant Borough's Residents Form Alliance

The Havant B.C. Housing Plan 2036 has sparked such strong public feeling right across the Borough that 10 strong stakeholders' groups, representing between them a large cross-section of our residents, have submitted an impassioned letter to Councillor Cheshire, Leader of Havant B.C. The joint letter, co-signed on Hayling Island residents' behalf by HIRA, expresses the following: our residents are horrified at the potential loss of large, important green spaces they feel ignored and that so-called Strategic Sites are being foisted upon them there has been inadequate communication with the public and poor access to information there were no public notices in Serving You or local papers such a

HIRA Objects to Housing Plan 2036

HIRA has officially presented its objections to Havant Borough Council's proposed 550 additional houses for Hayling Island. We have studied past and current technical Reports and consulted with other groups key to Islanders' future well-being, and concluded that not only is the Consultation Period far too short and during a holiday period, but there are serious concerns that Hayling's infrastructure will not cope. Our full Report has been submitted and is copied below but readers MUST write in to policy.design@havant.gov.uk themselves, giving specific practical reasons because sheer numbers of responders count more than than a single representative response! Petition: Support Hayling Ferry!

There's a petition taking off for us all to sign if we want to encourage everyone to use our Ferry and keep it running. It's quite simple, just go to http://www.supporttheferry.net/ on your address bar and you'll find the petition further down the page. According to the web page, First Bus have reneged on its promise to reinstate the Number 15 Portsmouth Bus so the service turns around at the Lumsden Road Estate instead of continuing to the Hayling Ferry. We need to do all we can to encourage the Bus service to the Ferry, so please sign the petition and perhaps write in to the Bus Company!

HIRA meets with Hayling Practice Representatives

On August 30th Hayling's two Practice Managers and representative General Practitioners met with our Committee members to discuss concerns on both sides about the impact that Havant Borough Council's proposed Draft Housing Plan 2036 will have on Hayling's residents and their medical care. It is safe to say that the 550 houses proposed for Hayling, in addition to those already approved and being built, will put an intolerable strain on not only infrastructure such as our roads and in particular the A3023, but also our Medical Practices. Whilst HIRA has been informed that patient satisfaction with the Practices is very high, the substantial new numbers of proposed dwellings will have worrying

Holiday Consultation for Local Plan

It’s difficult to understand why Havant BC has set its Housing Plan’s 6 week Consultation period - that ends on September 9th - during the primary annual holiday month when so many traditionally holiday away. Equally whatever the reasons for the reduced Borough wide exhibition times, such holiday timing is prejudicial to residents’ having a meaningful consultation. Highly significant also is that many attending Hayling’s Exhibition told the Officers that they only knew about it thanks to HIRA’s routine member emails and our Noticeboard poster; this highlights the Council’s inadequate communication to ordinary residents on a matter of huge impact on the Island.
