Havant Local Plan

Message from Havant Borough Council re Local Plan 2036: "We would like to thank everyone who attended our Draft Local Plan 2036 Exhibitions at the beginning of the year and those who took the time to submit a representation about the draft plan. Since the consultation ended we have been looking through all of your representations in order to ascertain what the best way forward with next edition of the plan will be. It is anticipated that we will be publishing all of the representations in late-May 2018. Alongside these, we will also be publishing a report which summarises all of the points raised about each policy and the Council’s intended way forward. We will send out a further email to

Guide Dogs Scheme

Opportunity to join the My Guide scheme Would you like to make a real practical difference to someone living with sight loss? Would you like to be instrumental in helping someone to participate more fully in their local community and work towards greater independence? The charity Guide Dogs are currently seeking volunteers to do just that as part of their ground breaking My Guide scheme. My Guide is a service provided by Guide Dogs to support people who are living with sight loss to get out and about, to do the things they want to do. The role involves providing sighted guide assistance on Hayling Island. We currently have people living with sight loss waiting and they would really like to b

Woodland Consultation:May 10th Deadline

The following is an extract from the Woodland Trust (online) Planning Advisor, Victoria Bankes Price, regarding the Government's recently revised National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). It highlights some of the problems we encounter dealing with Havant Borough Council's Local Plan: "The new consultation draft of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) is a mixed bag, with great news for ancient woodland but bad news for aged and veteran trees. Although the big issue driving these policy changes is housing, what are the implications for the environment generally? Let’s take a look at some of the other changes to the ‘green’ policies and consider how well they work for woods and tr

Garden Waste

Anecdotally we've heard that Havant Borough Council did not collect Hayling's Monday March 5th garden waste from the bins left out because of "bad weather". Apparently this collection will have to wait until their next scheduled one in two weeks' time.

A3023 Status Report!

STATUS REPORT ON THE A3023 PROJECT FROM SAVE OUR ISLAND GROUP & HAYLING ISLAND RESIDENTS’ ASSOCIATION Now that we are getting closer to the conclusion of the Havant Borough Council’s (HBC) Local Plan, it is an appropriate time to update the Island residents on the status of the A3023 review process. The Save Our Island Group (SOI) and HIRA have been working together for the past 18 months on this project as members of the HBC Hayling Island Infrastructure Advisory Group. The group’s purpose is to provide on-the-ground advice regarding infrastructure capacity on Hayling Island and its links to the mainland. The group will review information and evidence base being produced to inform the Hav

Jobs & Infrastructure Before Housing

Recently revised Government Planning Policy may expedite housing development, but we trust that the Housing Minister’s support for building town houses in cities, providing affordable homes where there are existing jobs and facilities, will reduce pressure on ‘valuable’ open spaces. Meanwhile, Councils’ desperate attempts to prevent developers’ Appeals, claim that allocating house building will improve infrastructure. Hayling has not yet seen the 2013 Goldring Development’s Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) spend, reinforcing the argument that jobs and infrastructure must come before housing developments. Whilst Hayling’s Infrastructure Review is, at the time of writing, incomplete, Islan
