Havant hosts Dementia Action Week

Find out everything you need to know about dementia by joining in with Dementia Action Week.

From Monday 20 May - Friday 24 May, Havant Borough Council’s plaza atrium will host a variety of dementia related pop-up stalls bringing together residents, councillors, staff, local businesses and community groups.

Groups including Dementia Friendly Havant, Right at Home, the Alzheimer’s Society, Rotary Club, Community First, the Princess Royal Trust and Havant Men’s Shed are all taking part and will be at the Plaza at various times throughout the week.

During the event, a cascade of blue and yellow ‘Forget-Me-Not’ flowers will also be on display courtesy of Dementia Friendly Hayling and other keen knitters from around the borough. The beautiful flowers are a symbol of dementia and have been knitted, crocheted and stitched by generous volunteers.

Tracey Wood, Head of Housing and Community Engagement, said: “Dementia Action Week aims to raise awareness of dementia within the community. By raising awareness of dementia and the challenges faced by people living with the condition, we can better support them and help improve their lives.”

Dementia is a disease of the brain which can impact memory, everyday tasks, communication and perception. There are more than 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK and 18,000 in Hampshire. About 2,000 of these people reside in Havant borough and this figure is set to rise.
