Sewage Spill Again

We are aware of another unlicensed sewage spillage near Stoke Pumping Station last Saturday, when 6 man-hole covers lifted for about 3.5 hours spilling out sewage that is both close to homes and, in a few cases, in their gardens. The 2 pumps were, I understand, working at the time. Southern Water Emergency could not be reached by one of those householders affected because, they were told, 'something like1000 red Alerts' had also come in from across the southern region. We await news as to exactly what caused this incident. Our sympathies go out to the households affected.

Police Budget

I hope that all readers receive Hampshire Alert emails, as we've previously recommended for Hayling and wider police public notices and advice; if you haven't, just enter that heading in your search bar and following instructions to register using your own email. If you don't receive these free Police Alerts then please be aware that Michael Lane, Police & Crime Commissioner offers a very brief Survey requesting your choice of a) Council Tax increase for policing b) choice of police focus. Councillors De-Selected

Byron Melton of The NEWS reported this week that both Councillors Wilson and Satchwell have been de-selected as Conservative candidates for the 2019 Borough Elections. A Martin Box, who does not live on Hayling, has been chosen to stand instead for Hayling West whilst Cllr. Wilson will stand for Hayling East. Cllr. Satchwell has not been selected to stand again. This is a shock for many who have worked in residents' groups alongside both Cllr. Wilson and Cllr. Satchwell, finding both Councillors hard-working and pro-active for us here on Hayling. We understand that it is the local Conservative Association members who have de-selected these Councillors as candidates.

HBC Lottery

Havant Borough Lottery winner picks up £2000 One lucky winner has just received an early Christmas present and walked away with £2,000 from the Havant Borough Community Lottery draw on Saturday 8 December. Mrs Pat Tuffee from Hayling Island matched five numbers in the draw and now joins the list of other winners who have won either money or free lottery tickets. Pat said; “I'm very pleased to have won such a large amount just before Christmas. I think this is a really good way to raise money for local good causes and I hope this lottery continues to be a great success." The Havant Borough Community Lottery is an exciting, local, weekly lottery that has so far raised more than £26,000, in th

Key Issues for Council

In early November the Council voted for its recently published Regeneration Document; it was frustrating that there was no debate or even discussion by Councillors on the well researched points made in the three Deputations that specifically covered Hayling and the Town Centre. Two key issues still need to be addressed by the Council. The Regeneration Programme documents must be freely available to the public, with commercially sensitive information redacted as necessary. We need to see local communities of residents represented at the External Stakeholder level, along with those professionals responsible for our health, education and safety. We also noted that, over the next five years,
